FIrst Hair-do Blocking

Working out FutureGirl's base model and hairstyle.  The concept is that she changes outfit from sequence to sequence.  Complete with new Hair Styles and all.  But I wanted to define a 'default' look for hair and body.

I like the hair shape generally, but I need to model it out correctly.  Only blocking is seen here.

The body is ok, I want to do a breast reduction to give her a more athletic build.  Also need to design a 1970's sci-fi space suit for her.   This is just a simple latex jump suit.  Good for most occasions.  :-)

Redesign proposal.

In an effort to find something more appealing, I'm trying a new design.

I also want to do one more iteration, to consider which style I find the most flexible for animation, and ease of lighting in the toon render...  as well as just general appeal.

I found this design gave me immediate appealing looks with minimum work.  All I did was rotate the camera around and move the eyes.    It might be worth building a few face shapes to help her express, and see if I can make her emote.

Character Inspiration

I'm hoping to start modeling these two characters soon.  Shane Glines was a huge inspiration for both styles. I love his work.  It's so appealling, I hope to capture it in 3D.

Completed Shot 10

So Got this shot feeling good.    The Vimeo compression really crushed the detail in the smoke, but trust me, it looks really Anime when you see it correctly.  :-)

Invasion S10 from J Dates on Vimeo.

This shot has been the bane of my exsistance for a few years now, and I feel as if it's now one of my favorite.  Go figure.  But I've cut it into the trailer, and just shows that all the other shots have a lot of work to do.  :-)

Enjoy

Blocked Breakthrough!

So this is the shot that has been blocking my progress.  And the breakthrough was a composition problem.  I couldn't find a composition that I liked.  The Alien walker is attacking the Army Base, but I just couldn't seem to make it work.  Well, I am happy with it now.  I'll have it animated an in the edit by end of the week.  Add some CG destruction FX, and voila!  Alien destroying Army Base.  ( them building is going kabloowee!)

Not only that, it's been so long since I started this silly trailer that my tastes and style preferences have changed. ( the story has never been stronger! ).
However, the visual style is going to lean more towards this image.  I'm keeping the Toon influence and flat feel I wanted.  But I'm also incorporating much more texture also.  Of course this means I have to go back and do this to exsisting shots, but I am confident that won't be a huge issue.

More soon!  I promise.

Teaser Animatic

Finally, an Update!!

So I wanted to get this online to help motivate myself to finish the Teaser up. I've recently been inspired again to work on it.

What you see here is a work in progress. I'm going through roughly to block out the shots and animation and determine where I need to spend my time. The end result will be 16x9, and not feel so raw.

You'll see animation mixed in with storyboards. As I complete a shot I am dropping them into the shot. So the boards are just rough placeholders. Obviously.
